[CPD Seminar] Residential Tenancy Act: Issues and Challenges
The relationship between landlords and renters is now not explicitly governed by the law in Malaysia. A tenancy agreement between two parties outlines the legal duties and rights of the landlord and renter. In the event of a dispute, the common law, case law, civil law, contract law, suitable legislation managing distress, and the eviction procedure are employed.
The Malaysian government has decided that legislation with specific acts governing the legal relationships between landlords and tenants similar to those in place in developed nations which offer some degree of protection to both landlords and tenants is necessary. During the tenure of the former housing minister, the plan for the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA), which would provide the legal framework to regulate relationships between property owners and their tenants, was developed.
With this seminar, participants will explore the numerous potential issues and challenges with the Residential Tenancy Act and the specific circumstances where it is applicable.
